Support The NSRC
The ecological challenges facing Sri Lanka’s biodiverse ecosystems are both urgent and complex. Our organization is committed to advancing the conservation of endemic species and habitats through evidence-based fieldwork, ecological monitoring, and community-integrated sustainability programs.
We currently operate two active research stations — Serukelle and Lemastote — each serving as a hub for field-based scientific research, ecological restoration, and capacity-building among local stakeholders.
Our Mission
To safeguard Sri Lanka’s ecological integrity through interdisciplinary research, habitat conservation, and community engagement — ensuring that biodiversity is not only studied, but protected.
Active Field Sites
Serukelle Research Station – North-Western Dry Zone
The Serukelle station serves as a base for ecological research in dry zone habitats, with a focus on:
Longitudinal studies on forest succession and climate resilience
Restoration of degraded landscapes using native species
Monitoring avian biodiversity along migratory routes
Promoting reforestation through community-led agroforestry models
Lemastote Field Station – Southern Wetlands
Located near a critical lowland wetland complex, the Lemastote station supports:
Field studies on amphibians, reptiles, and wetland indicator species
Hydrological and soil analysis to inform habitat restoration
Conservation education programs for local youth and educators
Development of community conservation strategies
Why Your Support Matters
Field-based ecological research is resource-intensive and often underfunded, despite its critical role in informing national and global conservation priorities. Your contribution enables us to:
-
Sustain ongoing research and long-term biodiversity monitoring
-
Equip field scientists and volunteers with essential tools and training
-
Expand habitat restoration and native planting programs
-
Strengthen environmental literacy in surrounding communities
Contribution Tiers
-
$20 – Supports sample collection and data logging for a day
-
$50 – Contributes to restoration of 50 m² of degraded habitat
-
$100 – Funds educational outreach in one rural school
-
$250+ – Supports a week of research station operations, including field staff stipends and logistics
Every contribution — large or small — directly supports conservation and scientific inquiry. All donations are securely processed and allocated exclusively to programmatic and operational needs at our field sites.
